Bill Clinton's Heart Is Younger Than It Was 10 Years Ago
By: Ashley Collman, Huffington Post (18 March 2014)
Bill Clinton's heart is younger than it was 10 years ago after former president lost 30 pounds on plant-based diet, says daughter Chelsea
The former president adopted a plant-based diet four years ago after undergoing emergency heart surgery.
Since adopting a new eating lifestyle, the 67-year-old has lost 30 pounds
Bill Clinton has undergone an incredible physical transformation, and the former president is healthier than ever.
In an interview with the Huffington Post, daughter Chelsea Clinton says her father recently went to the doctor for a check-up and the physician told him his heart is 'much younger than it was even 10 years ago'.
The 67-year-old took up the plant-based diet and lost 30 pounds after undergoing an emergency heart surgeryin February 2010.
The ex-president had quadruple bypass surgery prior to that in September 2004 and was famous for his diet of McDonald's and other junk food while in office.
Chelsea says it was her father's 2010 surgery that pushed him to make the drastic lifestyle change, and that he did so all by himself.
'He didn't need my mom or me to pressure him to do that. I think having a quadruple bypass surgery was sufficiently sobering. And I am profoundly grateful that he really radically changed his life,' she said.
'He walks four times a week diligently wherever he is in the world. And he's so determined to be advocate for other men and men in particular to go to the doctors, as he did when he started to not feel well. And then to make the necessary changes in their life so hopefully they can live a long time,' Chelsea added.
Mr Clinton detailed his diet in an interview with AARP last August. 'I have so much more energy now! I feel great,' he told the magazine.
He admitted that on his austere diet he still indulges in an omelette or a serving of salmon 'once a week or so' to 'maintain zinc and muscle mass'.
